The Ukrainian Charitable Alliance, Nova Ukraine, Kharkiv Regional Council, and Kharkiv Regional Employment Center have joined forces to develop vocational training that meets the real needs of employers in the Kharkiv region.

The corresponding Memorandum of Cooperation was signed within the framework of the project "Path of Opportunities 2.0: Restoration Professions for the Frontline Kharkiv Region"«

This is an important stage for the project, as the partnership will help to more closely connect vocational education opportunities, the needs of employers, and people looking for work or wanting to learn a new profession.

«"Path of Opportunities 2.0" is built on the principle that professional training begins not with an abstract list of specialties, but with a real personnel demand from business.

Training based on real demand from employers

First, it is determined which specialists employers need, and then short-term practical training is organized based on this request. This approach allows participants to gain skills that may be directly needed in current vacancies.

The project focuses on short practical modules, professional tests and training tailored to the specific needs of employers. At least 70% of the training consists of practice.

Currently, enrollment is open for nine areas of study:

We have agreed on these areas with the Kharkiv Vocational College of Construction and Industry:

1

installer – ventilation, air conditioning, installation of solar panels and plasterboard structures;

2

plumber;

3

painter-plasterer / painter-plasterer;

4

welder;

5

electric gas welder / electric gas welder;

6

electrician / electrician;

7

concrete mixer / concrete mixer;

8

car mechanic;

9

auto electrician / auto electrician.

The training is designed for people without professional experience who want to learn a new profession and continue to apply for employment.

The project pays special attention to people who may find it more difficult to return to the labor market or find a new profession. Potential participants include veterans, IDPs, women, people aged 45+, unemployed youth, and residents of frontline communities.

Upon completion of the training, participants receive a certificate.

At the same time, completing the training does not mean automatic employment: participants can apply for specific vacancies, and the final decision is made by the employer based on the results of the selection, interview, or trial day.

Partnership for the restoration of the Kharkiv region's labor market

An important component of the model is direct interaction with employers. It is their personnel requests that help determine who and in what profession it is advisable to train.

The signing of the Memorandum consolidates the partnership between the organizations and creates the basis for further joint work on professional training of people in accordance with the needs of the Kharkiv region's labor market.

Financial support for the "Path of Opportunities 2.0" project is provided by Nova Ukraine.

The common goal of the partners is to help increase the number of people with in-demand professional skills and create more opportunities for those who want to work, learn new professions, and develop in the Kharkiv region.

Five labor market gaps: what we see in working with employers and people in the Kharkiv region

The labor market in Ukraine today is experiencing a complex phenomenon - vacancies, people and their expectations often exist in different coordinates. An employer may be in critical need of an employee right now, but among the available candidates there may not be a person with the necessary skills. At the same time, a person looking for a job may not find an offer that is acceptable to him even where there are formally many vacancies.
