Our history

Our present: from response to recovery

Today, the Ukrainian Charitable Alliance is a professional charitable organization working to restore the Kharkiv region, combining local expertise, rapid response, and long-term solutions for people and communities.

In 2026, our work is focused on four areas:

Educational program

Humanitarian program

Veteran Program

Infrastructure program

Where are we going:

From crisis response to our own solutions for recovery

In 2026–2027, we are moving from emergency response to developing our own programmatic solutions, combining a response to the urgent challenges of war with investments in expertise for post-war recovery.

Power return

In 2025, we launched a veterans' initiative in partnership with UNDP. The project aims to support veterans in their return to civilian life through access to professional help, new opportunities, and individual support.

In 2025, 264 veterans have already joined the program — each with their own request, experience, and path to returning to civilian life.

Launch of an educational program

In February 2024, with the support of Nova Ukraine and The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, we opened the first educational center "Zmistovno" in Kharkiv. The project was a response to the educational losses of children and the need for safe spaces for development, learning, and communication.

As of 2026, the network has grown to three educational centers. In the spring of 2025, four Spaces of Invincibility with educational components also opened in the communities of the Kharkiv region, where children and youth can learn, develop, and spend time in a safe environment.

12000 +

classes for children were provided by the educational centers “Zmistovno” and Prostory in the region during 2024-2025

2022-2023: WHEN HELP BECAME URGENT

The full-scale invasion changed the format of our work. We quickly adapted to new challenges: we assisted with evacuations from dangerous areas, delivered humanitarian aid, and supported communities and institutions.

This period became a test for us and at the same time an experience that taught us to act quickly, take responsibility, and stay close where help was needed most.

When time passed by for hours,
speed of decisions mattered.

At that time, it was important not only to help - it was important to be in time.

Where it all began

We started our journey in Kharkiv as a local volunteer initiative, helping lonely elderly people, orphans, large families and other vulnerable groups. In the first years, this work was based solely on the contributions of volunteers, caring people and the team's own resources. It was then that our understanding of the real needs of the people and communities we work with today was formed.

We have always been in direct contact with our wards, we have seen their real challenges with our own eyes.

This is what became the basis of our approach — work not randomly, but with an understanding of the context and real needs.
