Oksana's story

When you lose everything but hope

How joint support helps Kharkiv residents build lives from scratch

Before a full-scale invasion Oksana Negutorova had her own cozy world in the village of Bily Kolodyaz in the Kharkiv region.

Today there are almost no residents left there, and all infrastructure completely destroyed constant strikes by Russian anti-aircraft missiles and drones.

My house is damaged, but I still have hope that it, although damaged, will wait for peace, and my family will have the opportunity to return home.

Oksana shares

"In May 2024, during the repeated offensive on Vovchansk, we were forced to evacuate. There was neither the opportunity nor the desire to go far, so we chose our native Kharkiv region — the village of Solonytsivka."

The beginning of life in evacuation was a real test of strength. At first, three families were forced to rent one shared apartment. It was incredibly difficult both financially and psychologically.

Due to the war, Oksana lost not only her home, but also two of her closest people. Emotional burnout, deep sadness, and a long break from work built an invisible wall —

Finding a new place in life and getting a job seemed like an almost impossible task.

The war knocked the ground out from under her feet, but Oksana understood:

You need to regain control of your life to secure your family's future.

Having learned about the Ukrainian Charity Alliance's educational project for internally displaced persons, she felt that this was her chance and registered for two directions at once.

Accounting

Project management

The greatest value of studying for Oksana was not only the lectures themselves, but something much more delicate and important - regaining faith in one's own strength.

"Before the project started, I doubted myself a lot. But I was inspired and supported by the atmosphere created by the organizers. When you lose everything, It is extremely important to feel that you are not left alone with difficulties, That they believe in you and are ready to lend a helping hand," she recalls.

Today Oksana is confidently stepping forward.

She moved to Kharkiv and is successfully working in her specialty in a large company. She is financially independent again and dreams of joining future UBA projects.

The launch of the first groups of this project and Oksana's success were made possible thanks to the initial grant support of our reliable partner - the foundation Together for Ukraine. Their trust allowed us to launch this vital mechanism.

However, Oksana's story is just one universe saved. And thousands need help.

Right now, thousands of people in the Kharkiv region are waiting for their chance.

To veterans

It is difficult to adapt to the civilian labor market.

Women, youth and older people

lost their profession due to the war

Local business

There is a critical shortage of specialists to rebuild the devastated region.

For children and adolescents

there are not enough safe spaces to make up for educational losses.

To provide a comprehensive response to these challenges, we have created the UBA Educational Program

— an ecosystem that combines educational centers for children and professional rehabilitation programs for adults.

Grants from international partners allow us to launch such initiatives, but it is your regular individual contributions that ensure the continuous, stable operation of the entire Educational Program every day.

Your donation is a guarantee that our teachers and psychologists will be able to continue accepting people from the waiting list, and the centers will have light and necessary materials.

By investing in the UBA Educational Program, you are giving people a reliable "fishing rod" with which they will rebuild their lives and our community.
