For frontline communities in the Kharkiv region, power outages are not just a temporary inconvenience.
Due to regular shelling of energy infrastructure along with electricity, people risk losing heat, and communities risk losing the stable operation of critical facilities.
That is why backup power sources are becoming not an additional option for communities, but part of basic preparedness for winter, emergency outages, and new attacks on the power system.
The Ukrainian Charity Alliance donated a powerful generator to the Solonytsivska community for backup power supply to the boiler house in the village of Podvirky.
In the event of a power outage, it will help support the operation of the heating system, on which more than 1,200 community residents depend.
For such communities, stable boiler operation is not only a matter of comfort, but also a matter of continuity of basic services during the cold season.
The boiler house in Podvirky provides heat supply:
kindergarten and lyceum
paramedic and obstetrician station
12 multi-storey buildings
over 1200 community residents
The generator gives the community more options to act during emergency outages and reduces the risk of equipment failure, which is essential for heating homes and the operation of social facilities.
According to the head of the Solonytsivka village council Andriy Litvinov, the electricity supply situation in the community is variable.
The well-being of the community's residents depends on the intensity of shelling of critical infrastructure. Right now there is light, it's just that at any moment an alarm could sound and it would disappear.

A solution that enhances resilience
Ukrainian Charity Alliance has been supporting the Solonytsivska community since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. During this time, the team has helped respond to the humanitarian needs of residents and supported the community during the most difficult periods.
The transfer of the generator is another step in preparing for possible crisis scenarios. It does not eliminate all risks, but it gives the community more resilience in the event that the power system is again threatened.
The presence of autonomous sources of electricity allows you to ensure stable operation of important facilities even during emergency shutdowns or interruptions in the power system.
Chairman of the Ukrainian Charity Alliance Oleksiy Kurtsev.
The experience of previous winters has shown how important it is to prepare backup solutions for the systems on which people's daily lives depend. For frontline communities, this means the ability to mitigate the consequences of a crisis in advance, rather than waiting for it to happen.
Support that works at the community level
The generator donation was made possible with the support of the Cincinnati Twin Cities Partnership.
For the Solonytsivska community, this is not just a piece of equipment. It is an additional resource that will help keep homes warm, maintain the functioning of social infrastructure, and better weather periods of energy instability.
This is how international support is transformed into concrete solutions that strengthen the resilience of Kharkiv region communities where it is needed most.
The Solonytsivska community is no exception
Communities across the Kharkiv region live under constant risk to energy and utility infrastructure. For them, backup power is an opportunity to maintain heat, water, and basic medical and social services even in times of crisis.
Such solutions are not always visible from the outside, but they are what help communities get through the winter, maintain critical facilities, and reduce the impact of new shelling on people.
The UBA Infrastructure Program helps communities in the Kharkiv region prepare for challenges that cannot be postponed: power outages, damage to critical infrastructure, risks to heat, water, and basic services.
Grants from international partners allow us to implement big solutions, but it is the regular support of philanthropists that allows us to respond more quickly to the urgent needs of communities and strengthen their resilience where it is needed most.
Your contribution is not just assistance with the purchase of equipment. It is a contribution to the continuous operation of critical facilities, to the warmth of homes, and to the ability of communities to get through winter and crisis periods with fewer losses.
Support the UBA infrastructure program with a regular monthly contribution or a one-time donation.
